1. Describe Enid, describe Rebecca. At the start of the story, why do you think they are friends? Why does their friendship deteriorate throughout the film? How have they both changed by the end of the story?
Enid is a lost teenager who doesnt´ know what she wants to do with her life, I think. She seems very smart and artistic. But she gets angry with anyone who doesnt do what she wants. Rebecca is Enids best friend, she seems more down to earth. She has a job and she want her own apartment and to start her grown up life.
I think they are friends because they are both kind of outsiders in school because of their weird sense of humor. But they have each other and their friend who works at the gas station.
Their friendship deteriorates when Enid meet Seymour. She thinks only of him and do not want to be with Rebbeca longer. I think she is currently unhappy with her own life, so instead of talking whit Rebecca about it she talks whit Seymour and shut out rebecca from her life.
In the end I think that Enid change the most, she understand what she did wrong and makes everything right. Then she went away with the mysterious bus which I think represents her ”new start” in her life. But i don´t really know in which way Rebecca change?
3. When Enid asks Seymour if he believes society has evolved beyond the racism depicted in the Cook’s Chicken poster, he says things are probably better now, but adds that it’s “complicated”. “People still hate each other, but they just know how to hide it better”. What do you think he means by this?
He believes that people still hate on each other even though they don´t dare to stand for there opinion face to face. Now a days it's not okay to stand and say exactly what you think about anything because you are more aware that you can hurt someones feelings. Back in the days the people was more outspoken, they demonstrate and stood for their opinion. Now you can write what ever you think on the internet or to a journal where you can be anonymous.
6. Is Ghost world a comedy? How is this film different from comedies that you are accustomed to viewing?
Yes, I think that this movie was a comedy, but not only. I would call it a comedy drama.
If you ask me, a comedy should be easy to watch so you don´t have to think so much while looking at it, there shouldn´t be so many confusing scenes. For example the one with the bus that had stopped going but came in the end to pick her up.
Above all, you should laugh allot when you watch a comedy. Ghost World was funny sometimes but mostly sad I think. Many depressing people who did strange things. But even though it was sad, it was that who made the movie fun, the exaggerated failures.
